With effect from October 1,2008, payment of import duties to the Nigeria Customs Service will be made on-line in line with the ASYCUDA + + initiatives by the federal government.

This was made known by the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs, Alhaji Hamman Bello Ahmed during the commissioning of two internet cafes for processing of direct traders input; a scheme directed towards achieving 48 hours clearance of cargoes at the nation's ports.

Alhaji Ahmed also directed banks to computerize their systems or be prepared to quit the system while encouraging Customs Agents to acquaint themselves with the new system.

To ensure the success of this programme, the Service has embarked on training and re-training programs for it's officers and men.

When this program becomes operational, the systems of operating banks will be synchronized with that of the Customs and will eliminate manual confirmation of customs duties and reduce beaurecracies in customs processing.
